Norm/well

Norm/Well is series of paper collages I created between 2015 and 2018 which re-imagine and re-contextualize characters found in Norman Rockwell's illustrations. They draw inspiration from my study of physical theater and psychological gesture. I find it fantastic that when these figures are placed in new environments or contemporary dilemmas, they continue to tell compelling, humorous or sentimental stories. It was great fun to match bodily articulations with visual environments that seemed created to house these characters. These works align with one of the core truths of physical theater: a narrative will always be born when a viewer witnesses the relationship between a character's visible tension, state or desires and the condition of their environment.
